Choosing a Domain
Choosing a Domain and Hosting
The next step is to buy a domain for your site.
First you have to find a domain That's available.
After you get your hosting, you'll need to get your domain name. Just try different domain name ideas that are related to your niche to see what's available and take notes of what you find.
Then go over your list with a couple friends to decide on which is best. Here are some general tips:
The shorter, the better. 2-3 words, or 2-5 syllables.
The more brand-like, the better. For example, Starbucks.com if That's your brand is a better domain name than BuyCoffeeOnline.com. The idea is that you'll create your own brand, even if It's your personal name if you choose.
A domain name only costs $10.99 on Godaddy, so go ahead and purchase this.
.com or .com.uk or .com.au or .net
You can actually use anything you want as a TLD (which is what the .com part of a domain is called). The advantage of .com.uk or .com.au is that it will be clear that you are targeting either the UK or Australia. If you use a .com, it will be better for international use or just the USA market.
There is a .us option for targeting the USA, but it isn't popular and most Americans haven't learned to use it.
